Purpose
This article provides step-by-step instructions for resetting your Imperial Valley College Microsoft account password using Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset site.
Important
If you have not yet registered a phone number or Microsoft Authenticator for your Microsoft account, you must first configure your security information by visiting https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo before you can use the Self-Service Password Reset site.
Overview
The Self-Service Password Reset site allows you to securely reset your Microsoft account password at any time without contacting the IT Help Desk.
Note: Before you begin, make sure you have access to one of your registered authentication methods, such as your phone number or the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Steps
Step 1: Sign in through Microsoft SSO


- Enter your Imperial Valley College email address.

- Click Next
Step 2: Click on "Forgot my Password"

- Student IVC email address should auto populate.
- Complete the CAPTCHA verification.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity
- After entering your email address and completing the CAPTCHA, Microsoft will verify your identity.
- Select one of your registered verification methods:
- Text message
- Phone call
- Microsoft Authenticator app

Step 4: Enter the Verification Code
Complete the verification using the method you selected:

- Text Message
- Enter the verification code sent to your mobile device.
- Phone Call
- Answer the automated phone call and follow the prompts.
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and approve the sign-in request or enter the verification code, if prompted.
- Click Next to continue
Step 5: Create a New Password

Important: Your new password must meet the password requirements listed in the Password Requirements section below.
- Enter your new password.
- Confirm your new password.
- Select Finish.
Your Microsoft account password has been successfully reset. You can now sign in using your new password.

Password Requirements
Your new password must meet the following Microsoft password requirements:
- Be at least 8 characters long.
- Include at least one uppercase letter (A-Z).
- Include at least one lowercase letter (a-z).
- Include at least one number (0-9) or one special character (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*).
- Be unique and not match a previously used password.
- Not contain your name or any part of your name.
Tip: Create a strong password by using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters that are easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
Troubleshooting
I did not receive a verification code.
- If you do not receive a verification code, try the following:
- Verify that you selected the correct phone number or Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Ensure your mobile device has a strong cellular or internet connection.
- Wait a few minutes and request a new verification code.
- If the issue persists, contact the IVC Help Desk.
I successfully signed in and want to update my security information.
- Once you have access to your account, it is recommended that you review and update your security information to prevent future sign-in issues.
- To manage your security information, visit: https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo
- From this page, you can:
- Add or update your phone number.
- Add or update the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Change your password.
- Manage your sign-in verification methods.
My password was successfully reset, but I still cannot sign in.
- Verify that you are signing in with your full IVC email address.
- Ensure that Caps Lock is turned off.
- Wait a few minutes for the new password to synchronize across Microsoft services.
- If you continue to experience issues, contact the IVC Help Desk.
Changed phone or phone number but still have access to your account.
- If you still have access to your Microsoft account, update your registered phone number before changing your phone number or replacing your device. This helps ensure you can continue to verify your identity and avoid being locked out of your account. To update your security information, visit https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo and replace your existing phone number with your new one.
- This will help prevent being locked out of your account.
- You can also change your password from the Security Info page if needed.
